Fraternities & Sororities: Good or Evil? This is a featured page

GreekThe University of Richmond website proudly declares that being involved with the Greek System promotes Leadership, Scholarship, Service, Social Opportunities, and Athletics, but what about the darker side of Greek Life on college campuses?

This page is designed to explore both the positive and the negative aspects of being involved in Greek Life and to better understand the unique dynamics of this special type of group. This page also hopes to delve into both positive and negative behaviors and outcomes associated with fraternities and sororities such as volunteerism, success after college, underage drinking, sexism, negative body image, etc. by examining each of these topics from an empirical perspective.

As such this page will serve as a home page for discussions on both...

  • The Evils of Fraternities & Sororities: How do greek organizations contribute to problems such as homophobia, sexual assault, eating disorders, underage drinking, binge drinking, etc.?

  • The Good of Fraternities & Sororities: What positive benefits do greek organizations provide to their members and society? How do these groups help develop leadership, service, scholarship, academics, etc.?
