Eastern and Western Philosophy

The table below shows some of the conceptual differences between the roots of Eastern and Western philosophy. It is important to note the influences inherent in both cultures, that have carried into modern times. For instance, there is a much larger focus on the individual in Western Philosophy, while Eastern Philosophy focuses on "Cosmological unity" and the incorporation of many into one; essentially collectivism. Meditation, a largely Eastern practice, is often seen as a way to transcend the individual self and generate a sense of oneness with all of reality.
